IND vs WI: Kris Srikkanth Believes That India Should Have Picked Deepak Hooda Over Shreyas Iyer In The First T20I

Kris Srikkanth, a former captain of India and former chairman of the selection committee, was upset by his team’s selection for the opening T20I of the five-game series against the West Indies at the Brian Lara Stadium in Tarouba, Trinidad.

When the selection was supported by former Indian cricketer Pragyan Ojha, Srikkanth thought that India should have chosen Deepak Hooda over Shreyas Iyer for the starting XI and responded with a brazen Rahul Dravid.

India was successful in scoring 190/6 after losing the toss and choosing to bat first. Rohit Sharma, the team’s captain, and seasoned wicketkeeper-batsman Dinesh Karthik were India’s top 2 performers. Karthik was able to smash a spectacular 41 runs off 19 balls, including 4 fours and 2 sixes, and India’s captain struck an astounding 64 runs off 44 balls, including 7 fours and 2 sixes.

In the T20I lineup, the team saw the return of captain Rohit Sharma along with seven other players who had all been rested for the three-match ODI series, which the Shikhar Dhawan-led team had won 3-0.

In his chat with Fan Code, Kris Srikkanth noted that in his most recent outings for India in both white-ball formats, he had excelled.

“Hooda where are you? He performed admirably in both the T20I and ODI formats. He is the person who belongs there. You must realize that T20 cricket requires all-rounders. The more all-rounders you have, the better for you” Kris Srikkanth remarked before Ojha, a member of the same panel, entered to defend Dravid’s decision-making.

“Rahul Bhai believes that if a player first performs for you, then play and support him.” Then you proceed with the other options,” Ojha explained.

In the middle of his explanation, Srikkanth interrupted him and said “Rahul Dravid ka soch humko nehi chaiye. Aapka soch chaiye. Abhi chaiye. Abhi do.”

Ojha chuckles and supported Srikanth’s decision, saying “Hooda to hona chaiye. Obviously Hooda.”

“Bas. Khatam,” replied Kris Srikkanth.

On Friday, July 29, at the Brian Lara Stadium in Tarouba, Trinidad, the India National Cricket Team defeated the West Indies National Cricket Team by 68 runs to win the opening T20I of the five-match T20I series.
