IND vs WI: Rohit Sharma Said He Will Play Aggressively - Ajay Jadeja Questions Shikhar Dhawan's 'Slow-Knock' In 1st ODI
Former cricketer Ajay Jadeja was unimpressed with the role played by skipper, Shikhar Dhawan, in the first ODI of the 3-match series against the West Indies on Friday.
Dhawan won the Player of the Match award for his 99-ball 97 in the first innings. He stitched a 119-run opening partnership with Shubman Gill before adding 94 for the second wicket with Shreyas Iyer.
Despite the excellent performance where he ensured India held the fort down at one end, Jadeja was unhappy that Dhawan is still part of the playing XI.
“Regarding Shikhar Dhawan, I am totally confused. What is he doing here? 6 months back he was dropped. India moved on to KL Rahul and some of the younger players. Then suddenly he was made the captain in the Sri Lanka tour last year,” Jadeja said on FanCode.
“He is definitely not part of it” – Ajay Jadeja on Dhawan’s spot in the main team
Dhawan is not part of the fray in Tests or T20Is but he has been consistent in ODIs. He is a safe bet at the top of the order with Rohit Sharma but Jadeja expects more from the senior pro.
“Then again he was left out, then was taken to England. So what are they thinking? And if he is part of India’s thought process then captain Rohit Sharma said that we will play an aggressive brand of cricket. He is definitely not part of it,” Jadeja told FanCode.
Ahead of the first ODI, Dhawan had said that he doesn’t pay heed to critics. He said they’ve been asking for his axing from the side for quite a while but scoring runs will continue to be his priority.
