IND vs WI: "Sanju Samson Will Deliver If He Gets Consistent Opportunities": Danish Kaneria

Sanju Samson scored his maiden ODI fifty playing his third ODI for India. He achieved the feat in the second ODI against West Indies in Trinidad on Sunday. India won the game by two wickets chasing 312 and in the process bagged another ODI series win against West Indies.

Sanju Samson was picked in this ODI series as Rishabh Pant was rested. After failing to get a good start in the first ODI, he took the opportunity in the second ODI while batting at number five. India were 79/3 in the 18th over when he came in. He then added a 99-run stand with Shreyas Iyer (63). Samson scored 54 out of the 99 runs he added with Iyer and stabilised the Indian innings. The last hundred off runs were scored by Axar Patel and Deepak Hooda as India registered the third-highest successful run chase in the Caribbean.

Meanwhile, Former Pakistan spinner Danish Kaneria praised Samson for his maiden half-century and said that he will deliver if he gets consistent opportunities. Samson has been guilty of throwing away good starts in the past but he utilised this opportunity to the fullest.

“Sanju is a fantastic player, no doubt about it. But he has been constantly in and out of the team. If he gets consistent opportunities, he will deliver. I am sure about that,” Kaneria said while speaking on his YouTube channel.

Kaneria further spoke about Samson’s approach with the bat during his innings saying that he was extra motivated to prove a point to the Indian selectors.

“Whenever he bats, he looks very elegant. He has the skill to play the long innings. From his looks, it was clear how hard he was concentrating and how focused he was during his innings,” he said. Samson’s innings was cut short by a run out from Kyle Mayers inside the circle.

“Sanju Samson delivered with his maiden fifty. He was playing superbly but was unfortunate to get run out. He was unlucky as Deepak Hooda made the call and Samson responded. He was batting sensibly and with a lot of maturity until then” Kaneria concluded saying.
