IND vs WI: Zaheer Khan Thinks Shreyas Iyer Has A Tremendous Chance To Secure His Place In The ODI Team

Zaheer Khan, a former India bowler, thinks Shreyas Iyer has a fantastic chance to secure his spot in the ODI team during the three-match ODI series in the West Indies.
The 27-year-old has been somewhat inconsistent recently and may drop down the list if the runs do not materialize.
Iyer has around 1000 runs and a one-day average of over 40, but his recent performance has been far from stellar. A notable 80 against the West Indies in Ahmedabad earlier this year was his last ODI innings. His performances in other forms have, however, also affected how he is positioned in the ODI starting XI.
Iyer has an outstanding record at Queen’s Park Oval, the site of the three upcoming one-day international matches. He played on the team that toured the Caribbean in 2019 and scored 71 and 65 in back-to-back games to help his team win the series 2-0.
‘Shreyas Iyer will get another opportunity: Zaheer Khan
When Virat Kohli returned from his groin strain sustained during the recently completed series against England, Iyer was removed from the lineup. Zaheer Khan suggested on Cricbuzz that the right-handed batsman should seize this chance to compete for a spot in the first XI:
“Ishan Kishan or Sanju Samson will both have a role. Shreyas Iyer will get another opportunity to see international cricket and take advantage of it to solidify his position.”
“Now is the chance, now is the moment where you demonstrate that “I am ready” and overtake the person in front of you,” Zaheer Khan added.
On Friday, the Shikhar Dhawan-led ODI team will play the first of three games against the West Indies at Port of Spain’s Queen’s Park Oval (July 22).
