Young India National Cricket Team opening batsman Shubman Gill’s lazy piece of running resulted in him getting dismissed in the first ODI as West Indies National Cricket Team captain Nicholas Pooran nailed a brilliant direct hit.

The first match of the three-match ODI series between the India National Cricket Team and West Indies National Cricket Team is being played at the Queen’s Park Oval, Port of Spain, Trinidad on Friday, July 22.

West Indies won the toss and invited India to bat first. The decision didn’t favour the side as the 22-year-old opener Gill and the 36-year-old opener Shikhar Dhawan batted exceptionally well.

Shikhar Dhawan and Shubman Gill completed 50 runs partnership in just 41 balls. The openers looked comfortable out in the middle and completed 100 runs partnership in just 84 balls.

Gill got run out on the 4th ball of the 18th over, which was bowled by Alzarri Joseph. The pacer bowled a back-of-length delivery to Gill and the India opener tucked it to the right of mid-wicket and went for a single.

Gill thought it was an easy single and he was jogging for the early part of the run. Also, he was not expecting Pooran to pick up the ball and hit the stumps on the bowler’s end. The 22-year-old scored 64 runs off 53 balls, including 6 fours and 2 sixes, before getting run out by Pooran’s brilliant direct-hit.
