Star India National Cricket Team all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja has been ruled out of the first two ODIs of the three-match ODI series against the West Indies National Cricket Team.

Ravindra Jadeja was appointed as the vice-captain of the India National Cricket Team for the three-match ODI series against the West Indies National Cricket Team in the absence of a few prominent names.

Ahead of the first match of the series between India and the West Indies, stand-in India captain Shikhar Dhawan had indicated that Jadeja might miss the clash against West Indies.

“Right now, he (Ravindra Jadeja) has a bit of a niggle so we don’t know whether he will be ready or not for the first ODI. Other than that, (Mohammed) Siraj is there, Prasidh (Krishna) is there, and we have got amazing fast bowling,” Dhawan said.

The first match of the three-match ODI series between the India National Cricket Team and West Indies National Cricket Team is being played at the Queen’s Park Oval, Port of Spain, Trinidad on Friday, July 22.

After the toss in Port of Spain, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) released a statement on Twitter, asserting that Jadeja has sustained an injury to his right knee. The statement added that the decision on Jadeja’s participation in the third ODI will be taken later.

“Team India all-rounder Mr. Ravindra Jadeja has sustained an injury to his right knee and has been ruled out of the first two ODIs against West Indies.

“The BCCI Medical team is monitoring his progress and a decision on his participation in the third ODI will be taken accordingly,” the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) tweeted.

Shreyas Iyer, who is the skipper of the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the Indian Premier League (IPL), has been appointed as the vice-captain of Team India in the absence of Jadeja.
