Indian batter Rahul Tripathi was excluded from the playing XI against Zimbabwe in the first ODI which got underway at the Harare Sports Club on Thursday.

Tripathi was called up to the national side following excellent performances in the IPL 2022 season. The right-hander was expected to feature in the match but the management opted to go Ishan Kishan and Shubman Gill at the top.

Shikhar Dhawan will be the opener while skipper, KL Rahul, will play in the middle-order, as has been his role in the ODIs. Sanju Samson will don the gloves while Deepak Hooda finishes the top 6 players in the team.

As expected, Deepak Chahar returned to the side after a long absence from international cricket. He suffered a hamstring injury prior to the IPL season and was nursing the same.

Meanwhile, Tripathi’s absence was not well received by the fans, who believe he could have played in the team at No. 3 instead of Kishan, who is generally an opener for any team he plays for.
