In the second ODI, which was played on Saturday in Harare, Shardul Thakur took three wickets to match Deepak Chahar’s haul from the first game and bowl Zimbabwe out for 161.

Although Mohammed Siraj’s eight overs only yielded 16 runs and all of the bowlers on display managed to take a wicket each, Thakur was responsible for the majority of India’s wickets.

When asked to bat, Zimbabwe’s openers Takudzwanashe Kaitano and Innocent Kaia got things going slowly.

The hosts lost the same number of wickets again in the second ODI after losing four in a little more than ten overs in the first ODI.

Despite the caution at the start, Zimbabwe found themselves in familiar territory at 31 for 4 after 12.4 overs.

For a time, Sikandar Raza and Sean Williams tried to resurrect the innings but Axar Patel and Kuldeep Yadav persisted in their attack.

Raza battled Axar’s arm balls and survived a strong lbw appeal but he eventually fell to Kuldeep when he sliced one to backward point, ending a 41-run partnership with Williams.

The hosts only managed 161 runs. India did not get off to a good start in the chase because they lost their captain early on. They kept losing wickets in regular intervals but Sanju Samson held one end up and helped India chase down the target in 25.4 overs with 5 wickets in hand.

After the game, Regis Chakabva said, “I think we had a really good fight. Last game we struggled to pick up wickets. Today we were short with a few runs. Today we were up for the challenge, the bowlers hit their lengths really well. We’ve struggled to pick early wickets in the last few games and we did that today. We fell short of runs on the board. Our execution lacked a little bit in the end, and we’re looking to score more runs. The bowlers came out charging and they tried to hit their lengths.”
