KL Rahul-led India National Cricket Team won the first ODI match of the three-match ODI series by 10 wickets against Regis Chakabva-led Zimbabwe National Cricket Team at the Harare Sports Club on Thursday, August 18.
Winning the toss and bowling first, the Indian bowling unit did an outstanding job by picking early wickets and reducing Zimbabwe to 31/4.
Deepak Chahar, Axar Patel and Prasidh Krishna bagged 3 wickets each while Mohammed Siraj bagged one wicket for India to bowl out Zimbabwe for 189. Left-arm wrist spinner Kuldeep Yadav was the only Indian bowler to go wicketless, but he gave away just 36 runs in his 10-over quota.
Chasing the target, Shikhar Dhawan and Shubman Gill batted exceptionally well and they had an unbeaten 192-run stand that helped Team India win the match by 10 wickets and register their 13th consecutive win over Zimbabwe.
We do play a lot of cricket and injuries are going to be part of it – KL Rahul
During the post-match presentation ceremony, KL Rahul said that injuries are part and parcel of the game, but staying away from the game is very hard. He asserted:
“We do play a lot of cricket and injuries are going to be part of it. Being away from the game is really hard. It is a tough time and we worked together (me, Kuldeep and Deepak) in Bangalore.”
Rahul was pleased to see the Indian bowlers showing discipline and picking up wickets at regular intervals in the first ODI against Zimbabwe. He said:
“There was a bit of swing and seam movement as well, but it was good to see the bowlers stay disciplined and pick up those wickets. For a few of us, it is great to be back in the Indian dressing room. As a team we have been in good form, good to see that all of us are getting enough game time. Feels good to be out there.”
