Former Indian spinner Reetinder Sodhi said Indian batter KL Rahul would gain confidence from his recent outing in the third ODI against Zimbabwe.
Rahul, the stand-in skipper for India in the series, retained the opening slot with Shikhar Dhawan after India opted to bat first. The pair added 63 runs in 15 overs before Rahul departed on 30 off 46 balls, hitting one four and a six.

Shubman Gill registered his maiden international hundred – 130 in 97 balls – plundering 15 boundaries and a six to take India’s total to 289/8 in the first innings. This was the highest individual score by an Indian batter in Zimbabwe.
Rahul played international cricket after a hiatus of six months owing to injury woes. Rahul didn’t open the innings in the first match to make the way for Gill and Dhawan. He could add just one run in the second game before flowing some runs in the last game.
KL Rahul’s confidence would have increased after this game: Reetinder Sodhi
Sodhi, who played 18 ODI matches for India, feels the Indian opener will be pleased with those handful of runs ahead of Asia Cup 2022.
“It was pleasing to see that KL Rahul was in good touch today. He hadn’t played any competitive cricket in recent months and looked a bit rusty in the first game. But today, his mindset looked good and his feet were moving nicely,” Sodhi told India News Sports.
“He knows that these games are crucial for him as he is a certainty for the T20 World Cup. When in form, he has the ability to take the game away from the opposition. KL Rahul’s confidence would have increased after this game,” he added.
India swept Zimbabwe 3-0 in the ODI series after Shardul Thakur and Avesh Khan pulled off the game in the slog overs. Sikandar Raza scored a breathtaking century as a matter of resilience but missed the chance to take his side past the finishing line.
