South Africa National Cricket Team History:
- South Africa entered first-class and international cricket in the 1888–89 season against England. The South African cricket team played its first Test in March 1889 against England in Port Elizabeth.
- After England and Australia, they became the third team to play Test cricket.
- They were part of the Imperial Cricket Conference formed in 1906 with England and Australia.
- After struggling in early years, they won their first Test against England in 1906.
- The ICC banned South Africa from international cricket in 1970 due to the anti-apartheid movement. The Proteas were reinstated as a Test nation in 1991 and played their first sanctioned international match since 1970 (and its first-ever ODI) against India in Calcutta on 10 November 1991.
- Their first Test after re-admission was played against the West Indies in April 1992.
- The South African team today is one of the strongest teams in the world.

South Africa National Cricket Team: ICC World Cup record:
The South African cricket team has been playing in the ICC World Cup since 1992. They are yet to win the World Cup. Their best performance in the marquee event is the semifinal appearance. The African country made it to the semifinal in 1992 before crashing out at the quarterfinal stage in 1996.
In 1999, they made it to the semifinal once again but failed to progress to the final. They co-hosted the World Cup four years later but could not go past the group stage. In 2007 and 2011, their journey ended at the semifinal and quarterfinal stages respectively.
In 2015, the South Africa National Cricket Team once again qualified for the semifinal but ended up on the losing side once again. In 2019, they bowed out at the league stage before making it to the semifinal in 2023.
