Mumbai Indians became only the second team in Indian Premier League history to finish in tenth place. The Mumbai-based team began the season with eight defeats in eight games. Under the captaincy of Rohit Sharma, the five-time champions lost games from positions where they appeared to be winning.

MI made a strong fightback in the second half of the season, winning four of their last six games to earn eight points. Given the team’s poor performance in IPL 2022, the team management would have to make some significant choices ahead of IPL 2023. Here are five players who MI could release:

1. Jaydev Unadkat:

In the auction for the 2022 Indian Premier League, he was purchased by the Mumbai Indians in February 2022. The Mumbai-based franchise’s fast attack let the team down. Jaydev Unadkat, a seasoned Indian fast bowler, managed to play five games for the team, obtaining six wickets at an economy rate of 9.50. His high economic rate may guide his release.

2. Mayank Markande:

Mayank Markande shot to prominence in 2018 after a breakout season with the Mumbai Indians. Mayank was purchased at the Mega Auction by Mumbai after a couple of unremarkable seasons with the Rajasthan Royals. This season, he only appeared in two games. The leg-spinner ended up sitting on the bench for almost the rest of the season, as the prefers of Murugan Ashwin and Hrithik Shokeen rose through the pecking order.

3. Fabian Allen:

In the auction for the 2022 Indian Premier League, he was purchased by the Mumbai Indians in February 2022. Fabian Allen, a West Indian all-rounder, was yet another deal that did not go as planned by the Mumbai Indians. The spinner only had one chance, taking one wicket and giving up 46 runs at an economy rate of 11.50. His high economic rate may guide his release.

4. Tymal Mills:

In the auction for the 2022 Indian Premier League, he was purchased by the Mumbai Indians in February 2022. Tymal Mills, an English fast bowler, did not make an impression in MI colors. He took six wickets in five games for the squad, with an economy rate of more than 11. In addition, his proclivity for getting injured may lead to his release.

5. Basil Thampi:

In the auction for the 2022 Indian Premier League, he was purchased by the Mumbai Indians in February 2022. Basil Thampi, an uncapped Indian pacer, takes 5 wickets in five games at an economy rate of 9.50. MI could revolutionize their fast bowler ahead of the IPL 2023.
