The 16th edition of the Indian Premier League will be held in India from April to June 2023. As is customary before the start of each IPL season, an auction will be held. The IPL 2023 auction is scheduled to take place in February 2023.
Punjab Kings have been a dismal failure in the IPL. The men in maroon had a poor IPL season this year, winning only seven games and finishing sixth on the points table.
The primary reason can be referred to as Mayank Agarwal‘s poor leadership. He was unable to marshal his soldiers effectively. He made numerous tactical errors on the field, resulting in Punjab losing close games. For the coming season, they’ll need to make some changes to their lineup. Let’s look at five players who Punjab Kings could keep ahead of the IPL 2023 auction:
1. Mayank Agarwal:
Mayank Agarwal has been a key contributor with the bat for the PBKS team since his arrival. Because of his consistency, PBKS opted to keep him after the TATA IPL 2022 auction and subsequently named him skipper for the following season. He had the worst average among skippers in the current season of the cash-rich league. Mayank had a 16.33 batting average and 196 runs in 12 innings.
2. Liam Livingstone:
Punjab Kings paid 11.50 crores for Liam Livingstone in the IPL 2022 mega auction. Liam Livingston was PBKS’ second most successful batsman. In 14 innings, he scored 437 runs with an average of 36.42 and a strike rate of nearly 182. Punjab has made a significant investment in this English all-rounder and based on his success in IPL 2022, the team will almost certainly want to keep him ahead of the IPL 2023 auction.
3. Shikhar Dhawan:
Shikhar Dhawan is one of the few players who has continuously done well despite multiple changes in the lineup. In IPL 2022, while playing for Punjab Kings, the prolific opening batsman maintained his outstanding form and became the franchise’s leading run-getter. In 14 innings, the left-handed batter scored 460 runs. In most games, he gave the team a strong start. The Punjab franchise will almost certainly want to keep him.
4. Kagiso Rabada:
In the IPL 2022, the South African speedster was outstanding. In 14 matches, he took the most wickets with 23. Kagiso Rabada was purchased for 9.25 crores by the team management in the IPL 2022 mega auction, and he proved that the money was well spent. PKBS will very certainly want to retain Rabada as their frontline bowler till the IPL 2023 auction.
5. Arshdeep Singh:
Arshdeep Singh was retained by Punjab Kings for 4 crores before the IPL 2022 mega auction. His IPL 2022 numbers do not represent his real performance on the field. Despite the fact that Arshdeep Singh only took 10 wickets in 14 matches, he was outstanding at the vital periods of the game. Arshdeep recently set up the Indian national team’s schedule for the upcoming t20 series against South Africa.
