Former Indian cricketer Aakash Chopra has picked four potential retentions for the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) franchise ahead of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 mega auction, surprisingly he didn’t pick RCB’s top IPL 2021 performers Harshal Patel and Glenn Maxwell.

Harshal Patel was able to bag 32 wickets in just 15 IPL 2021 games at an average of 14.34 economy of 8.14 and strike rate of 10.56. His best bowling figures were 5/27. Harshal won the Gamechanger of the season, Most Valuable Player of the season and Purple Cap award during his sensational run.

Meanwhile, Glenn Maxwell was the highest run-scorer for the franchise in the Indian Premier League 2021; he scored 513 runs at an average of 42.75 and a strike rate of 144.10 with six half-centuries.

Speaking on his YouTube channel, Chopra named Virat Kohli and Yuzvendra Chahal as his first two choices and Mohammed Siraj and Devdutt Padikkal as the next two retentions.

Virat Kohli and Yuzi Chahal will be my first two choices. If I have two more in my hand, I will try for Mohammed Siraj and Devdutt Padikkal. These will be my four. I will think about these four for sure. In fact, I can think about Harshal as well – Siraj/Harshal,” Aakash Chopra said.

Cricketer-turned-commentator mentioned that there will be a toss-up between Harshal and Siraj, but looking at three seasons, Siraj might be a better option.

It might be a toss-up between Harshal Patel and Mohammed Siraj. You can look at Siraj with a slightly more long-term vision. Harshal, the way he is developing, the last 12 months have been extremely good, so maybe Harshal Patel. But then you are looking at three seasons, not just one or two,” he added.

Aakash Chopra also revealed why he doesn’t want to retain Maxwell despite his sensational form in IPL 2021 and AB de Villiers taking retirement.

You might be thinking about Glenn Maxwell, why am I not wanting to retain him. It is because I don’t have hundred percent confidence. He is doing very well but I don’t know if he will continue doing that. So, I don’t want to take that chance,” Chopra further said.

Meanwhile, Aakash Chopra’s wish to retain 4 Indians can not be fulfilled as each team will be allowed to retain a maximum of four players, including a maximum of three Indians and a maximum of two overseas.
