Madhya Pradesh pacer Avesh Khan created a record after he was bought by the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) for INR 10 crores in the recent Indian Premier League-IPL 2022 mega auction. He had previously played for Delhi Capitals (DC) and was the second-highest wicket-taker in IPL 2021 season.
Avesh had listed his base price at INR 20 lakhs at the IPL 2022 auction and finally was picked by Sanjiv Goenka-owned Lucknow Super Giants franchise for a record bid where he will join forces with England speedster Mark Wood.
The LSG bid of INR 10 crores has crowned Avesh Khan as the most expensive uncapped Indian player in the history of the IPL auction. Lucknow defeated Mumbai Indians, Chennai Super Kings, and Sunrisers Hyderabad to win the bidding war for Avesh at the mega auction.
After Knowing I Was Bought For INR 10 Crores, I Froze: Avesh Khan
Avesh Khan is currently with the Indian team who are in Kolkata for the upcoming three-match T20I series against West Indies. The three T20Is will be played under lights at the Eden Gardens, and it remains to be seen whether BCCI allows the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) to have the crowd in the stadium, taking into concern the ongoing COVID pandemic.
The right-handed pacer is tipped to make his India debut during this three-match T20I series, which begins on February 16, with the next two matches to be played on February 18 and 20.
Speaking to Sportskeeda after joining the Lucknow franchise, Avesh said that he was a bit nervous about the bidding process at the mega auction. However, being on the flight, he couldn’t see the auction or keep track of it.
“I was on the flight at that time and I had expected I would get at least 7 crore. But since I was on the flight and couldn’t watch the auction live, I was feeling a bit nervous thinking which team would pick me and for how much.
“Upon landing when I got to know that Lucknow bought me for 10 crore, I froze for five seconds. But then things became normal, I was like okay,” Avesh said.
