The two-time Indian Premier League (IPL) champions Kolkata Knight Riders have announced former Indian team bowling coach Bharat Arun as their new bowling coach for the upcoming IPL 2022 season which is expected to begin in March-April this year.

The KKR team had an excellent season in IPL 2021, as they made a phoenix-like come back from being 7th on the points table in the first half of the tournament which was played in India, to qualifying for the playoffs and then reaching the finals of the tournament. Unfortunately, KKR couldn’t beat the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the final, with the MS Dhoni-led team winning its fourth title in the Indian Premier League.

Bharat Arun, a right-arm fast bowler, had a very successful domestic cricket career for Tamil Nadu and also represented the Indian team in a handful of Test matches and one-day internationals.

Making the announcement of his appointment, Venky Mysore, CEO & MD of KKR said, “We are very excited to have someone of the calibre of Bharat Arun joining us as our bowling coach. He will bring a wealth of experience and expertise to KKR’s strong support staff. We are delighted to welcome him to the Knight Riders family.”

Head Coach Brendon McCullum said, “A warm welcome to B Arun to the KKR coaching staff. With a strong and successful pedigree in the international game, I’m sure Arun will complement the current staff we have and I look forward to working with him. His experience at the international level and the ability to give confidence and clarity to our bowling group will be important, as we attempt to quickly align a new group of players to the values and style of play for KKR”.

I Admire The Knight Riders Franchise: Bharat Arun

Bharat Arun’s tenure as Indian team head coach ended after the T20 World Cup 2021 and under his guidance, India formed a great army of pace bowlers with the likes of Jasprit Bumrah, Deepak Chahar, Navdeep Saini, Khaleel Ahmed, T Natarajan, and Shardul Thakur coming into the team and maturing well enough to become one of the best bowlers in the world.

He is credited along with other coaches for giving the Indian team one of the best fast bowling attacks with the likes of Mohammad Shami, Umesh Yadav, Ishant Sharma, and Bumrah taking the lead.
