Players from Chennai Super Kings and Gujarat Titans were seen wearing black armbands in Match 62 of IPL 2022.

They were wearing the armbands in memory of former Australian all-rounder Andrew Symonds who died on Saturday night in a car accident.

Andrew Symonds Was One Of The Best All-Rounders Of His Era

Symonds was widely regarded as one of the best all-rounders of his era, and he was one of the few players during his prime years in international cricket who helped revolutionise batting with his amazing power-hitting abilities.

He played in 198 One-Day Internationals, 26 Tests, and 14 Twenty-20 Internationals for Australia.

Symonds is the third leading Australian cricketer to pass away in 2022, following the deaths of Rod Marsh and Shane Warne in March.

Symonds was the complete limited-overs package, being brutally aggressive with the bat, extremely agile on the field, and deceptively deadly with the ball during Australia’s unbeaten World Cup campaigns of 2003 and 2007.

Even in his limited Test career, he made an impression, striking a Boxing Day Ashes century and a counter-attacking 162* in the tumultuous Sydney Test of 2008, which helped Australia retain the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.

In IPL Symonds played for Deccan Chargers and Mumbai’s Indians. He had lit IPL on fire with a century against Rajasthan Royals in just his third game in 2008. He had hit a 117 not out from just 53 balls. Deccan Chargers finished bottom of the table in the inaugural edition of the tournament. But under Adam Gilchrist’s captaincy, the team bounced back to win the championship the next season.

Symonds retired from all forms of cricket in 2012 and then moved into broadcasting. He was a regular feature in Australia’s Big Bash League broadcasting team.
