CSK vs KKR: "Including Umesh In The Starting XI Was A Good Move" - Mohammad Kaif Praises Shreyas Iyer's Leadership

Former Indian batsman Mohammad Kaif applauded Shreyas Iyer for selecting Umesh Yadav for the Kolkata Knight Riders’ (KKR) playing XI for Saturday’s IPL 2022 match against the Chennai Super Kings (CSK).

Shreyas made his KKR debut as captain in the match against CSK. His tenure began well, with the Kolkata franchise defeating Chennai by six wickets at Wankhede Stadium.

In reviewing the 27-year-first old’s game as captain for KKR, Kaif lauded him for allowing speedster Yadav an opportunity to play. On SK Straight Talk, the former cricketer expressed his thoughts as follows:

“Captain Shreyas Iyer did an excellent job. Umesh’s inclusion in the starting XI was a wise option. He had previously been a member of the team but had not been allowed to play in the starting XI.”

“Shreyas, on the other hand, was a perfect fit for him. He also played Shivam Mavi and made effective use of the spinners (Varun Chakravarthy and Sunil Narine) as well as Andre Russell.”

Mohammad Kaif was impressed by the new KKR captain’s bold actions:

The new KKR captain’s bold moves on the field notably impressed Mohammad Kaif. He went on to say:

“His captaincy was forceful.” Early on, Ruturaj Gaikwad slipped and was expertly grabbed by Nitish Rana. The fielding side must attack when there is movement on the pitch. When Gaikwad was batting, Shreyas Iyer did just that, demonstrating his attacking intent. In general, he did well in his debut match as captain.”

Shreyas led the Delhi Capitals (DC) to their first-ever IPL final appearance during the 2020 season before joining the Kolkata franchise.

Shreyas Iyer’s Kolkata Knight Riders defeated defending champions Chennai Super Kings by six wickets at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.

On March 30, the Kolkata franchise will face the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) at DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai.
