CSK vs KKR: We Just Have To Carry The Momentum From Here - Shreyas Iyer After KKR's Win In Game 1
Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) captain Shreyas Iyer was elated as his team defeated defending champions, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) by six wickets in the first game of the IPL 2022 season.
CSK put up 131 on the board courtesy of a fifty in nearly three years for MS Dhoni. He stitched a 70-run association with the captain, Ravindra Jadeja, that rescued CSK from 61/5 in the 11th over.
However, it was nowhere close to enough as KKR chased it down comfortably with nine balls to spare. Ajinkya Rahane top-scored for Kolkata with a 34-ball 44 while Iyer stayed through to see his team over the line.
“There’s always tension when MS Dhoni is batting, especially in the last three overs when the dew is coming. The franchise has been supportive, right from the CEO and support staff. We just have to carry the momentum from here.”
“It was definitely spongier than we imagined [the surface]. I’ve grown up playing here and I thought the wicket would be flat. Umesh has been working very hard at the nets and practice sessions. Chuffed to see him perform at his best today,” Iyer said at the post-match presentation ceremony.
Umesh was the pick of the bowlers for KKR as he took 2/20 in four overs. His opening spell put Iyer and co. in the front and they never let the CSK side get back into the game. Umesh also won the Player of the Match award for his performance.
