Chennai Super Kings led by Ravindra Jadeja will take on Punjab Kings (PBKS) at the Brabourne stadium in Mumbai on April 3. It is the third game in IPL 2022 for both teams respectively. CSK have lost both their games while Punjab tasted a defeat against KKR after beating RCB in their season opener.

Former Indian head coach Ravi Shastri spoke about Ravindra Jadeja’s captaincy ahead of this crucial game for CSK. He said that the southpaw is under pressure and it is their openers who need to give them a good start in the game.

“It’s a cause for concern when both openers are not performing. It’s very important for one of the openers to strike form as soon as possible because they have lost two matches. There’s a new captain at the helm, and he’s under pressure. Yes, Dhoni is in form but if one of those openers doesn’t score then CSK will find it difficult in this tournament,” Shastri told ESPNcricinfo.

Ruturaj Gaikwad has scored o and 1 in the first two games for CSK. His lack of form is a major worry for the franchise with Faf du Plessis no longer a part of CSK. Shastri said that the right-hander needs to give himself some time before he gets onto the business of scoring runs.

“Ruturaj needs to give himself some time. He’s a good timer of the ball, he can make up for the slow starts later because he has a lot of shots. If he’s a bit careful at the start and gets a bit used to the pace of the wicket, the runs will automatically come These pitches are good for batting. In comparison to last year, there’s more bounce on this wicket and the ball is coming onto the bat nicely,” Shastri added.

Previously Shastri had lauded Ravindra Jadeja and said that he was more than capable of handling the captaincy with CSK. However, consecutive loss in the first two games means that they are languishing at the bottom of the table ahead of their next game against the Kings.

I am sure you are more than capable of handling the job as captain. Get out there and enjoy yourself like you normally do and be a good captain. Good luck with the toss, start winning many,” Shastri had said.
