Chennai Super Kings (CSK) finally registered their first victory in IPL 2022 as they thumped Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in a 23-run win at the Dr. DY Patil Sports Academy in Navi Mumbai, courtesy a 165-run stand between Robin Uthappa (88) and Shivam Dube (95*).
The duo escalated CSK’s total to 216/4 after they were stuck at 36/2 just after the powerplay. Uthappa and Dube combined forces and launched an attack on the opposition bowlers with some enchanting shots around the stadium.

Initially, they scored boundaries with a calculative approach but Uthappa shifted his gears in the 13th over when Glenn Maxwell rolled his arms. The CSK batter clubbed three sixes in the Australian spinner’s over.
On the other hand, Dube ensured to keep Wanindu Hasaranga quiet as the southpaw dispatched two sixes in his over. Uthappa reached his 27th IPL fifty with a flick shot for a boundary off Akash Deep’s bowling, in the same over Dube also completed his fifty by slicing one over point for a four.
I decided to take Glenn Maxwell on: Robin Uthappa
Uthappa missed his century by 12 runs as he failed to time Hasaranga’s googly and holed out to Virat Kohli at deep mid-wicket. The 36-year-old admitted that the moment he saw Maxwell taking the ball, he decided to charge against the Australian all-rounder.
“When Maxwell came in to bowl his third over, I felt it was the time to take him on even though it was the bigger boundary. An off-spinner bowling, so I decided to take him on,” Uthappa told official broadcasters after the game.
“When the spinners were bowling, I tried to feed him (Dube) as much strike as possible, and when the pacers were back on, I told him to give me the strike back I just allowed him to get in and get set. He has been hitting the ball well, I made sure to build a partnership with him,” he added.
CSK spinner Maheesh Theekshana bowled an incredible spell of 4/33 as RCB were restricted to 193/9 at the end of the match.
