Chennai Super Kings (CSK) took on Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) at the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai on April 9, 2022, in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL 2022) in what was the first game of a doubleheader.

Both Chennai Super Kings and Sunrisers Hyderabad came into this match without any wins in the IPL 2022. CSK were on a three-match losing streak, while SRH lost both their first two games. SRH captain Kane Williamson won the toss and rightly chose to bowl first.

Sunrisers Hyderabad handed debut caps to South Africa’s Marco Jansen and Shashank Singh, while Chennai Super Kings also included a debutant in Sri Lanka’s Maheesh Theekshana.

Moeen Ali top-scored with 48 as Chennai Super Kings managed 154/7 in 20 overs. For SRH, Washington Sundar and T Natarajan picked two wickets each.

After the match, Abhishek Sharma, who was named the Player of the Match, said: “It was a pressure game for the team and me. I am pretty much lucky to have a team like SRH as they have been very supportive.

“It’s a good start for me and I look forward to score more. They just wanted me to bat naturally and play my strokes. 100% I have been waiting for my bowling. Whenever I get the situation I am ready for it.”

SRH will next face Gujarat Titans on April 11, while CSK will take on RCB on April 12.
