Former Indian skipper Virender Sehwag advised Chennai Super Kings (CSK) skipper Ravindra Jadeja to avoid paying too much attention to media over criticism. Jadeja replaced MS Dhoni as the new skipper of CSK ahead of this season.

CSK lost to SRH by eight wickets on Saturday at the Dr DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai. SRH opened their account in the points table of IPL 2022 with the victory against the four-time IPL champions, who bore their fourth straight loss in a row.

If you think about that, you won’t be able to concentrate on the field: Virender Sehwag to Ravindra Jadeja

Jadeja has been in the spotlight on his credentials for leadership skills and many experts believe that the CSK skipper is dependable on veteran player MS Dhoni to turn things around for him. Sehwag directed Jadeja to stay away from media platforms and only use the mobile phone for enjoyment.

“My advice for Jadeja would be that these things will continue, don’t pay heed to them. If you think about that, you won’t be able to concentrate on the field because whenever you make a decision, you’ll continuously think, ‘What will they say? What will the fans think? What will the teammates think?’ You won’t be able to take the right decision through all that,” Sehwag told Cricbuzz.

“Put your phone on Airplane Mode. No one gives newspapers during this Covid phase anyway, you can keep your TV off. So just stay in your room and enjoy. The more you’ll read and watch these things, the worse your mind will get. Whenever you want to update your social media, put the phone out of the Airplane mode and do that then put it back,” he added.

I have seen it with Sachin Tendulkar, Rahul Dravid, MS Dhoni: Virender Sehwag

Sehwag led Delhi Daredevils (now Capitals) in 52 IPL matches and also stood as Indian team captain during MS Dhoni’s absence from the national team. Sehwag, who played under numerous captains, during his international career, mentioned how great Indian players would ignore opinions surfaced in media publications or broadcasters.

“I have seen it with Tendulkar, Rahul Dravid, MS Dhoni, and Yuvraj Singh – whenever they go through a tough phase, they don’t look at their mobile phone, TV, or newspaper. I feel he should practice, play video games and have fun,” the former Indian player said.

CSK will play their next match against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) on April 12 at the same venue.
