Great Opportunity For Shreyas Iyer, Just Go Out And Maybe Lead Another Franchise – Irfan Pathan On Iyer's Release From Delhi Capitals

World Cup-winning all-rounder Irfan Pathan feels that after getting released from the Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise Delhi Capitals (DC) Shreyas Iyer can lead any other team in the league.

According to reports Delhi Capitals (DC) have decided to part ways with their former captain Iyer who led DC towards their first-ever final in the history of the Indian Premier League (IPL). The four players retained by the franchise are wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant, All-rounder Axar Patel, pacer Anrich Nortje and opening batsman Prithvi Shaw.

Meanwhile, Iyer suffered a shoulder injury and he was ruled out of the first half of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 and Rishabh Pant was made the captain. Also when Iyer returned to the team he was not given the captaincy back.

Former Indian all-rounder Pathan feels that something is going on between DC and Iyer which is not out in public. He said:

“I think so (Shreyas Iyer might be looking for another challenge). He was leading the side really well, playing really well but suddenly when he came back after the injury he was not the captain”

“So that means there is something going on which is not out there in the public. Which means Rishabh Pant will continue as the captain and it’s a great opportunity for Shreyas Iyer. Just go out and maybe lead another franchise,” Pathan said on Star Sports.

Shreyas Iyer Has Been Scoring Runs Consistently In The Middle Order For Delhi Capitals – Irfan Pathan

Pathan further added that Iyer adds a lot of value to the franchise as he has been consistently scoring runs for Delhi Capitals in the middle order and he is a good leader. Pathan asserted:

“Shreyas Iyer has been scoring runs consistently in the middle order for Delhi Capitals in the last 3 seasons which is not easy at all.”

“We have seen majority of the runs being scored by openers because they get more balls to face but if you bat in the middle order trying to finish the game and being a leader, you add value to your franchise.”

“Shreyas Iyer, wherever he will go he will add a lot of value to the franchise and hopefully be able to lead the side as well,” Pathan said
