Gujarat Titans (GT) captain Hardik Pandya would be looking to put up a memorable effort against his previous IPL team Mumbai Indians, as per Indian spinner Piyush Chawla.

On Friday, table-toppers Gujarat will encounter bottom-placed Mumbai in IPL 2022 game number 51 at the Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai (May 6). While GT has eight wins from ten games, MI has only one win after nine.

On ESPNcricinfo, Piyush Chawla remarked about the match:

“It’s possible that Mumbai’s release was on Hardik’s mind. However, he has always stated that Mumbai has been extremely supportive of him. Even yet, there will be an inside sensation of ‘I want to do something remarkable’ when he pops up against MI.”

Hardik made his IPL debut for Mumbai Indians as a 21-year-old in 2015 and remained a key member of the team till the 2021 season.

Gujarat starter Shubman Gill was also advised by Piyush Chawla to spend some time on the field to regain his form.

“Shubman has only played solid innings and needs to improve his game.” The good news is that GT is in a very great position. He is free to take his time settling in. He’s the type of player who, if he gets his eye in, will score 80 instead of 40.”

‘Shami does very well with the new ball’: Piyush Chawla

While players like Hardik Pandya and Rashid Khan have been the focus of attention during Gujarat’s victories, bowler Mohammad Shami was an unsung hero throughout. Almost every encounter has seen him deliver important early strikes.

Piyush Chawla lauded the 31-year-old: “Shami plays the new ball quite well. Few people can seam a ball as he can. When the captain needs a wicket, he calls upon him. His economy is a worry, but he is a world-class bowler who will make up for it.”

In ten games, Mohammed Shami has taken 15 wickets at an average of 21.53 and an economy rate of 8.08.
