Punjab Kings (PBKS) returned to winning ways with a thumping victory over table-toppers, Gujarat Titans (GT), at the DY Patil Stadium in Mumbai on Tuesday.

After winning the toss, Hardik Pandya opted to bat first. Shubman Gill’s sudden slump in form continued and he was run out from Rishi Dhawan’s direct hit in the 3rd over. Wriddhiman Saha and Hardik fell soon after, leaving GT reeling at 44/3.

Sai Sudarshan then hung around with the rest of the batters, all the while stacking up the runs. He scored his maiden fifty and stayed unbeaten till the end to help Gujarat post 143/8 in 20 overs.

In the run chase, Jonny Bairstow was promoted up the order as Mayank Agarwal took a step back but the ploy failed as the Englishman was dismissed by Mohammed Shami for a 6-ball 1.

Shikhar Dhawan proceeded to build an 87-run partnership with Bhanuka Rajapaksa. Dhawan scored his 46th IPL fifty and ensured that he took the team over the line. There were late fireworks from Liam Livingstone, who smashed 28 runs off Shami’s 4th over.

Livingstone smashed 3 consecutive sixes off the first 3 balls, including the biggest one (117m) of the IPL 2022 season so far. He proceeded to get 10 more runs in the next 3 balls to record an 8-wicket win with 24 balls to spare.
