Everyone was surprised when the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) didn’t retain Haryana fast bowler Harshal Patel despite him ending the IPL 2021 edition as the highest wicket-taker and winning the Purple Cap for the same.

Though the possibility of re-signing Harshal exists for RCB, the pacer himself has revealed the name of the franchise he wishes to play for. Harshal Patel also made his India debut recently against New Zealand in T20Is at home and has been included in the upcoming T20I series against West Indies as well.

Harshal said that he had a word with Mike Hesson (RCB’s Director of Cricket) over the situation and was informed that the decision was taken for better ‘purse management’.

“When I was not retained, Mike Hesson called me and said, that it was mainly purse management. They would obviously love to have me back in the team and I too would obviously would love to go back and play for the team because RCB and this season (2021) changed my entire career and my entire life.

“However, in terms of auction, I haven’t heard from any franchises yet,” Patel told Crictracker.

Royal Challengers decided to retain Virat Kohli, Glenn Maxwell, and Mohammed Siraj as their three retentions ahead of the IPL 2022 auction. RCB had traded in Harshal Patel from Delhi Capitals after the end of the IPL 2020 season. In the 2021 season, Harshal played 15 games and picked 32 wickets.
