Chennai Super Kings were eliminated from the league stage as the four-time IPL winners suffered 10 losses in 14 games and finished in ninth place on the table.

Just two days ahead of the IPL 2022, Jadeja was named the new captain of the four-time IPL champions, taking over the captaincy reins from MS Dhoni.

However, in hindsight, the move didn’t work either for the franchise or the player. CSK won just two of the eight matches in IPL 2022 and Jadeja’s individual performance also dried up.

Jadeja scored 116 runs in 10 innings at 19.33 and returned five wickets with the ball at an economy rate of 7.52. The queer thing was Jadeja dropped a few catches in the tournament as well.

The CSK all-rounder was ruled out of the ongoing IPL 2022 after suffering a rib injury during their match against Delhi Capitals on May 8.

Dhoni was reinstated as CSK captain on April 3, a day ahead of their clash against Sunrisers Hyderabad.

Let us look at three of the best games CSK played this year.

IPL 2022: 3 Most Memorable Encounters Of The Season For Chennai Super Kings (CSK)

1. MI vs CSK (April 21, Navi Mumbai)

MS Dhoni’s vintage knock helped the team finish a thrilling win against arch-rivals in a thrilling encounter that went down to the wire.

While chasing 156 runs in the second innings, CSK needed 17 runs in the final over. MI pacer Jaydev Unadkat trapped Dwaine Pretorious before the wickets on the first ball to give his team hope of opening their account in the IPL 2022 points table.

But after Dwayne Bravo brought CSK talisman Dhoni on the strike, the 40-year-old nullified the Mumbai Indians’ plans with his insurmountable experience on the field.

Dhoni capitalised on the erred length of Unadkat, trying to go full and wide but the ball came in the slot of the former CSK skipper and was punished for a straight six.

Dhoni pulled the next ball, a short one, towards the square leg boundary for a four and plundered a couple of runs on the penultimate delivery to stay on strike for the final ball where CSK needed four runs to win.

Dhoni shuffled across the stumps and whipped it past the short fine leg to script another finishing chapter of his storied playing career.

2. CSK vs RCB (April 12, Navi Mumbai)

CSK thumped RCB in a 23-run win as Robin Uthappa (88) and Shivam Dube stitched 165 runs to propel their side to 216/4. It was CSK’s first win in IPL 2022 after suffering four straight losses at the start of the season.

RCB faltered in their chase as CSK spinner Maheesh Theekshana, playing only his second IPL game, picked the early wickets of RCB openers Faf du Plessis and Anuj Rawat to shrink RCB to 42/3 in the powerplay.

Skipper Ravindra Jadeja finished with figures 3/39 to aggregate his tally to 26 dismissals against RCB, the most by any bowler against the three-time IPL finalists.

3. CSK vs DC (May 8, Navi Mumbai)

CSK opener Devon Conway played a scintillating knock of 49-ball 87, laced with seven boundaries and five sixes, to power CSK to 208/6.

Off-spinner Moeen Ali was instrumental with the ball as he picked three wickets in exchange for 13 runs from four overs.

Apart from Moeen’s brilliance, Dwayne Bravo (2/24), Mukesh Choudhary (2/22), and Simarjeet Singh (2/27) picked a couple of wickets each as the Capitals were bowled out for 117 in 17.4 overs.
