Chennai Super Kings are the defending champions of the Indian Premier League. They won their fourth title last year after beating Kolkata Knight Riders in the final. Much to the delight of the fans, CSK have managed to retain their core players at the IPL 2022 Mega Auctions.
There is no denying that they have compiled a pretty solid squad this year as well and will be in contention for winning their fifth IPL title. The opening duo of Ruturaj Gaikwad and Faf du Plessis was one of the biggest reasons behind CSK’s successful campaign last year. They consistently provided solid starts at the top of the order, which set the foundation for competitive scores.
Ruturaj Gaikwad was retained by the franchise ahead of the IPL Mega Auctions 2022. However, they couldn’t bring Faf du Plessis back into the team. Ruturaj Gaikwad, in fact, was the highest run-scorer in the tournament last year. He won the Orange cap, while Faf du Plessis was the second-highest run-getter. In this article, we predict three players who can win the orange cap in IPL 2022.

Ruturaj Gaikwad
Ruturaj Gaikwad had a season to remember last year. He was nothing short of outstanding in the IPL 2021. Gaikwad was consistent all throughout the last season and provided the team with stellar starts in the first half of the innings. In 16 matches, he managed to score 635 runs at an average of 45.36 and a strike rate of 136.27.
There is no denying that Faf du Plessis complimented him pretty well but he won’t be there this time around. It will be interesting to see how Gaikwad plays alongside a new opening partner this year.

Robin Uthappa
Chennai Super Kings managed to bring Robin Uthappa to the IPL 2022 Mega Auctions. With Suresh Raina not in the team, Uthappa is likely to get a lot more opportunities for CSK this year. He played only four matches last year but his knocks in the Qualifier 1 and the final must-have tempted CSK to keep him in the team.
Uthappa scored an outstanding knock of 63 runs in 44 balls in the qualifier match against Delhi Capitals and followed it up a 15-ball 31 in the final against KKR. He will be one of the players to watch out for this year.
-
Moeen Ali
Moeen Ali’s promotion in the batting order worked wonders for CSK last year. He capitalized on the starts provided by the openers wonderfully. Ali played aggressive knocks consistently and thereby helped the team reach big totals. He played 15 matches and managed to score 357 runs at an average of 25.50 and a strike rate of 137.30.
CSK will, once again, be playing him at number three or four. Moeen Ali is likely to produce well with both bat and ball.
