IPL 2022: 3 Players Who Would Have Been A Better Captaincy Material Than Hardik Pandya For The Ahmedabad Franchise. The Board of Control for Cricket in India has given the Letter of Intent to the Ahmedabad franchise, which means that the franchise is set to make its debut in the upcoming edition of the Indian Premier League. Ahead of the mega-auctions 2022, both the new franchises are being told to pick three players from the list of released players (2 Indians and 1 overseas).

As per reports, the Ahmedabad franchise is likely to pick Hardik Pandya as their skipper for the upcoming edition. The recent development has surprised many as the Indian all-rounder doesn’t have a significant captaincy experience behind him.

Hardik Pandya hasn’t played any form of cricket since his participation in the ICC T20 World Cup 2021. He has been overlooked by the selectors due to his fitness and form issues. Pandya is still recovering from his prolonged back injury. And, giving the captaincy to him for a brand new franchise might not be a good idea.

Perhaps, there are a lot of world-class players who would have been better choices than the Indian all-rounder. In this article, we have named three cricketers who could be made the captain of the Ahmedabad franchise instead of Hardik Pandya.

  1. Rashid Khan

As per reports, Rashid Khan is also amongst the three players which have been picked by the Ahmedabad franchise for the next edition of the tournament. The Afghanistan leg-spinner was part of Sunrisers Hyderabad since his debut in IPL 2021.

He is currently one of the best spinners in the world. Despite playing for so many years in different franchise tournaments across the world, players still haven’t cracked the code of playing him with ease. Rashid Khan has 93 wickets in 76 matches in IPL at an economy of under 7.

Khan has a great amount of experience of playing in different franchise tournaments and knows quite well how to win matches in the shortest format of the game. Besides, he has a good amount of captaincy experience as he has been part of Afghanistan’s leadership group for a number of years now. Needless to say, he could have been a better captaincy material than Hardik Pandya.

  1. Shreyas Iyer

Earlier, it was reported that Shreyas Iyer would lead the Ahmedabad franchise for IPL 2022. However, as per recent developments, he is no longer in contention for the leadership role. Perhaps, no argument would be valid to suggest that Hardik Pandya is a better option than Shreyas Iyer for the leadership role.

Shreyas Iyer played a vital role in turning Delhi Capitals’ fortune in the Indian Premier League. He took over the leadership duties from Gautam Gambhir midway during the 2018 edition of IPL. Under Shreyas Iyer’s captaincy, Delhi reached the playoffs the followed edition and played the final in 2020.

Shreyas Iyer led the team from the front and made it a force be to reckoned with. Given the amount of experience he has in terms of leading a franchise in IPL and his state team in domestic tournaments, Shreyas Iyer would have been a far better choice than Hardik Pandya.

  1. David Warner

Perhaps, one doesn’t understand the logic behind picking Hardik Pandya as captain when you have the option of picking David Warner for the leadership role. David Warner in no longer part of Sunrisers Hyderabad’s set-up and is available to be picked by either of the two new teams for the upcoming edition.

Warner has the most runs as an overseas batsman in the Indian Premier League. He was the Player of the Tournament in the ICC T20 World Cup 2021. Under his leadership, SRH won their maiden IPL in 2016 and the Australian is credited for making SRH one of the most consistent outfits in the cash-rich league. Warner has been a phenomenon in IPL, boasting of a successful captaincy record to his name. Ideally, he should have the best option to lead the Ahmedabad franchise for the upcoming edition of the tournament.
