Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) have been the perennial underachievers in the IPL. Despite building a strong squad time and time again, they have not yet won the IPL title. They kick off their IPL 2022 campaign against Punjab Kings in a day-nighter on March 27 at the DY Patil stadium in Mumbai.

RCB are placed alongside CSK, SRH, PBKS and GT in group B. A total of 74 matches will be played in IPL 2022 across four venues in Maharashtra. In all, 20 matches each will be held at Wankhede Stadium & DY Patil Stadium, 15 matches each at Brabourne and MCA International Stadium, Pune.

Royal Challengers Bangalore have got together a strong squad yet again in the IPL 2022 mega auction. It is time now that they transform their potential into performance and end their title drought in the cash-rich league. Any top 5 list for RCB is incomplete without Virat Kohli in it. He is the highest run-getter in the IPL till date having scored 6283 runs in 207 games. He was awarded the MVP award in 2016 for scoring 973 runs. That remains the most runs scored by any player in a single season of the IPL. That also remains the last time RCB reached an IPL final. Kohli thus is key to RCB’s chances like every year and is certainly in contention for the Player of The Tournament award.

Du Plessis joined RCB for 7 crores after Bangalore pipped CSK in the bidding war at the auction. The former South African skipper is also likely to be announced as the next captain of RCB ahead of IPL 2022. He is also likely to open the innings with Virat. Du Plessis scored 633 runs in IPL 2021 and can be banked upon to score the runs for his new franchise. His role for his new franchise remains the sme and Bangalore would ideally hope that du Plessis does something special to help them lift the maiden IPL title.

Glenn Maxwell

Maxwell was one of the three players retained by RCB ahead of IPL 2022. He scored 513 runs for Bangalore in IPL 2021 and was the team’s highest run-getter that season. Maxwell has matured as a player in international cricket and in the IPL. He won the MVP courtesy of his breakout season with Punjab Kings in 2014. A similar performance can help him win the Man of the Tournament award in IPL 2022.

Harsdhal was one of the players RCB rebought at the mega auction. He took 32 wickets in IPL 2021 and equalled Dwayne Bravo’s record of the most wickets in a season. Despite his performances, he was not recognised for the Player of the Tournament award. He made his international debut for India after his successful IPL stint and is now one of the most potent bowlers in white-ball formats for India.

The IPL 2021 season was also a breakout season for Harshal who has been playing in the IPL for over a decade now. He will be key to fulfilling Banglore’s dream of winning their maiden IL title.
