Less than 20 days are left for the much-anticipated IPL 2022 auction to take place. For those of you who don’t know, the auction is scheduled to be held on 12th and 13th February 2022. A total of the 1214 players, including both Indians as well as overseas, have signed up for the mega-auctions.

This list includes 318 overseas players hailing from different nations. These players have set different base prices for themselves at the auctions. Most of the overseas players have set the maximum base price of INR 2 crores.

The list includes top talents such as David Warner, Pat Cummins, Josh Hazlewood, Trent Boult, Quinton de Kock, Faf du Plessis. Having said that, there are a few overseas players who have listed their base price at 2 crores that might go unsold at the auctions. Here’s a look at three of them.

  1. Imran Tahir

Ahead of the mega-auctions, all the teams are looking to build a new squad that can give them great results for a consistent period in the future. Quite understandably, all the teams would be looking to add as many as young and fit players as possible who can serve the team for a longer period of time.

In the last two editions, Imran Tahir has only managed to play 4 matches for Chennai Super Kings. Imran Tahir is currently 42 years old and it’s unlikely that any franchise would be interested in his services anymore. The South African spinner might well go unsold in the auctions.

  1. Steve Smith

In the last couple of years, Steve Smith’s performances have seen a sharp dip in T20 cricket. He hasn’t played impactful knocks in the shortest format- something which he is known for in Test Cricket.

He struggled badly while playing for Delhi Capitals in the 2021 edition. In 8 matches, he managed only 152 runs at 25.33. His strike rate of 122.59 doesn’t inspire a lot of confidence. He failed to impress in the ICC T20 World Cup 2022 either while playing for Australia. Perhaps, no franchise would be interested in Steve Smith’s services this year.

  1. David Willey

The left-arm seamer, David Willey isn’t a regular player in England’s playing XI in T20 internationals. He warms the benches on most occasions and only features in the XI when someone gets injured or rested. Having said that, he is quite a handy customer with the ball and delivered on most occasions whenever he has been given the opportunity.

Willey, however, will face tough competition with other world-class seamers in the auctions. With plenty of talents up for grabs, Willey might be overlooked by the franchise in the auctions.
