The highly anticipated event of this year, the IPL2022 Mega Auction concluded on Sunday. Across the two days, as many as 204 players were bought at the auctions for a combined prize of INR 550 crores. All the 10 franchises have managed to compile pretty solid squads for the upcoming edition of IPL.
Mumbai Indians were the ones who acquired the most expensive player of this auction. The franchise bought the services of Ishan Kishan for a whopping amount of 15.25 crores. Besides, KKR broke their bank for Indian cricketer Shreyas Iyer as they spent 12.25 crores to buy his services. Interestingly, Indian fast bowlers too were in heavy demand and racked in a huge sum of money at this auction.
Chennai Super Kings looked adamant to get Deepak Chahar back into the side, while the likes of Shardul Thakur and Avesh Khan also fetched million-dollar contracts. Having said that, IPL 2022 also saw some world-class players getting sold for a prize way less than they should have.
All these players can be considered as bargain buys of this IPL. On that note, we take a look at the 5 most undervalued players at the IPL Mega Auctions 2022.
IPL 2022 Auction: 5 Most Undervalued Buys In The Mega Auction
1. David Warner: 6.25 crores

After being released at SRH, David Warner was likely to cause a bidding war at the auctions. A destructive opener, who has an outstanding record in IPL, David Warner was expected to fetch a hefty sum of the contract.
However, not a lot of franchises showed interest in his services. Delhi Capitals eventually bought him for a sum of 6.25 crores. Given the kind of impact he has had, over the years, in the cash-rich tournament, Warner should have fetched a much better deal.
2. Yuzvendra Chahal: INR 6.50 crores

Indian bowlers were in high demand at the auctions. However, India’s best spinner in white-ball cricket, Yuzvendra Chahal couldn’t attract huge bids at the auctions. RCB tried to buy him back but gave up after some stage.
Rajasthan Royals eventually bought him for 6.5 crores. Chahal is one of the finest leg-spinners in the world right now and you would have expected him to fetch a better contract than this.
3. Alex Hales: 1.50 crores

England’s destructive opener, Alex Hales actively participates in numerous t20 franchise tournaments across the world. He has been scintillating form, of late. However, due to the huge supply of openers in world cricket, the franchises haven’t expressed a lot of interest in Alex Hales’ services, over the years. He went unsold in the first round of bidding this year as well but was later bought by KKR in the accelerated round for a bargain deal of INR 1. 50.
4. Jason Roy: INR 2 crores

Alex Hales counterpart, Jason Roy too didn’t cause a lot of excitement at the auctions. A few days prior to the auctions, Jason Roy exhibited his batting prowess in the Pakistan Super League 2022.
However, the franchises showed little interest in his abilities. Barring Gujarat Titans, no other franchise showed bid for him. He was eventually bought by the franchise for his base price of INR 2 Crore.
5. Krishnappa Gowtham: 9.2 crores

Indian uncapped cricketer, Krishnappa Gowtham made headlines last year after being bought by CSK for a whopping amount of 9.2 crores. However, the franchise didn’t give him any opportunity in a single game during the entire season.
This year, he expressed little interest from the teams. He set his base price at INR 50 lakhs and was eventually bought by Lucknow Super Giants for 90 Lakhs. Taking into account his multi-dimensional skills, Gowtham could be a valuable asset to any team in the shortest format. He bats at a strike rate of over 150, besides being a handy off-spinner.
