The IPL 2022 auction is all set to take place on February 12 and February 13 in Bengaluru as the 8 IPL teams have locked their retention list. Apart from them, IPL 2022 will have 2 new teams in the form of Lucknow and Ahmedabad which will also be retaining players released by the other 8 teams.
Some big names in the IPL 2022 retention were released by the franchises. These players might either be retained by the other 2 teams or they might jump into the IPL 2022 auction. Some big names including the likes of KL Rahul, David Warner, Rashid Khan, Shreyas Iyer, Hardik Pandya, Ishan Kishan, and many others weren’t retained by the franchises and now, these players might go under the hammer in IPL 2022 auction.
As per reports, KL Rahul is all set to captain the Lucknow franchise while Shreyas Iyer will be seen leading the Ahmedabad franchise. Apart from that, Andy Flower has also been appointed as the head coach of the Lucknow franchise for IPL 2022. If reports are to be believed, Ahmedabad might go after David Warner and Hardik Pandya while Lucknow is all set to bid for Rashid Khan.
Meanwhile, the Lucknow franchise has roped in former Indian player and the former captain of Kolkata Knight Riders, Gautam Gambhir as their mentor for the upcoming season of the IPL. SunRisers Hyderabad have roped in Brian Lara, Dale Steyn, Muttiah Muralitharan, and Simon Katich as their support staff person.

IPL 2022 Auction Date And Time
The IPL 2022 auction dates are February 12 and February 13 and the auction is all set to take place in Bengaluru. Many overseas and domestic players will go under the hammer during IPL 2022 mega auction. Like the 2018 mega auction, the IPL 2022 mega auction will unpack a lot of surprises for fans and it will be a two-day affair with all the glitz and glam.

The salary purse for IPL 2022 auction has been increased to Rs. 90 crore per team. Earlier in IPL 2021, the salary purse for each franchise was Rs. 85 crores. The 8 teams can retain either 4, 3, 2, or 1 player or no players at all. However, they will have the respective deduction from their salary purse when they go ahead with these options.
IPL 2022 New Teams
The two new teams that have been added to the IPL setup are the Lucknow and the Ahmedabad teams. While the Lucknow franchise was bought by the RPSG Group in an auction for more than INR 7000 Crores, the Ahmedabad franchise has been bought by a private CVC Capital company for almost about INR 6000 Crores.

Controversy arose even before the teams could finalize a name when CVC capital was accused of being involved in sports betting and had to almost lose out their ownership of the team. However, the BCCI hasn’t taken any legal action as yet and it is believed that the CVC Capital might be given the green flag.

IPL 2022 Retention Rules
The IPL 2022 retentions list have been announced by the 8 teams on November 30, 2021. The two new franchises can target 3 players- 2 domestic and 1 overseas- from December 1 to December 25. These 3 players can be picked from the pool of released players by the 8 franchises.
