Cricketer-turned-commentator Aakash Chopra feels Australia opener David Warner might not be on the cards of successful IPL teams like Chennai Super Kings and Mumbai Indians.

After playing for Sunrisers Hyderabad in seven IPL seasons, Warner parted ways with the Orange Army, whom he won the IPL 2016 title as their captain.

Warner is Sunrisers Hyderabad’s highest run-scorer with 4014 runs from 95 matches and has scored 40 fifties and a couple of centuries for the franchise in seven IPL editions.

It was inevitable that the Australian is unlikely to continue with the Hyderabad franchise after how things folded up between him and the team management at the end of IPL 2021 season.

Warner was neither bought by any of the two new franchises in their initial draft signings and that means the former SRH skipper will go under the hammer.

Don’t think CSK will even think about David Warner: Aakash Chopra

Chopra feels that there will be a bidding war for Warner but big teams like MI and CSK won’t be interested to rope in the left-handed opening batter.

“David Warner will be expensive, he will be in demand. But I’ve heard that Lucknow (Lucknow Super Giants) were not even keen on him. We thought he would open with Rahul. Hyderabad let him go. I don’t think Chennai will even think about Warner. I’m not 100 percent certain that Mumbai will consider him,” Chopra said on his YouTube channel.

“I’m not saying he won’t be expensive. People will go after him. It could be Delhi, Punjab, or Ahmedabad for all we know. But I think his goodwill has taken a hit. He has scored a lot of runs, he’s a good player. But I don’t think anyone will look at him as a captain. As opener, he might fetch money but will he go for  Rs 15-16-17 crores? I don’t think so,” he added.

Warner scored 289 runs in Australia’s triumphant campaign of the ICC T20 World Cup 2021 and was adjudged as the player of the tournament.
