IPL 2022 Auction: How Good Is That Going To Be - Ravichandran Ashwin On Sharing Dressing Room With Jos Buttler In Rajasthan Royals

Ace Indian spinner Ravichandran Ashwin was bought by the Rajasthan Royals (RR) in the ongoing Indian Premier League- IPL 2022 mega auction for INR 5 crores, giving birth to many memes given that one of the players retained by RR was Jos Buttler.

For those who may have forgotten, during the IPL 2019, when Ravichandran Ashwin captained the then Kings XI Punjab, in a match against Rajasthan Royals in Jaipur, the off-spinner had run out or mankaded Jos Buttler, after the England batter had left his crease at the non-striker end while Ashwin was in midst of bowling a ball.

This led to one of the most overblown controversies in the world of cricket with many criticizing Ashwin for how he ran out Buttler, calling it a gross display of a lack of playing spirit. On the other hand, many cricketers and pundits said that Ashwin was right in how he first warned Buttler not to leave the crease and then when the England batter didn’t comply, ran him out.

However, when RR told Jos Buttler that they were going to bid for Ravi Ashwin in the IPL 2022 mega auction, the England keeper-batter said it was absolutely fine that the franchise was going for such a good player.

Looking Forward To Bowling Alongside Yuzi (Yuzvendra Chahal)- Ravichandran Ashwin

In 167 matches in the IPL, Ravichandran Ashwin has picked 145 wickets with a best of 4/34 with an economy of 6.91. He has played for Chennai Super Kings, Delhi Capitals, and Punjab Kings previously, even captaining the Punjab unit for two IPL seasons.

Talking in a video posted by Rajasthan Royals, Ravi Ashwin said: “Hello Everyone, earlier today, I got picked by Rajasthan Royals. I’m extremely delighted that they picked me. They tried hard to get me in the last auction in 2018, but it’s come through finally. I’ve got a great rapport with all of them in that dugout. Share a good rapport with Sanju as well. So, looking forward to giving my complete best for the franchise, and hopefully, do some special things over the course of the next three years.

Looking forward to bowling alongside Yuzi, it’s going to be a lot of fun, and most importantly, looking forward to sharing the dressing room with Jos, how good is that going to be? All things done, Halla Bol.”

RR has bought Devdutt Padikkal, Shimron Hetmyer, Prasidh Krishna, Yuzvendra Chahal, and Riyan Parag apart from Ashwin in the IPL 2022 mega auction.
