IPL auctioneer Hugh Edmeades said he would be surprised to see if the IPL 2022 auction doesn’t breach the 20 crore purchase record.
The IPL 2022 mega auction is all set for another grand event of India’s T20 festive season as prominent players will see a bidding war by 10 teams.
The IPL 2022 auction won’t have the regular eight teams featuring but this time it will be 10 after the BCCI added two new teams (Lucknow and Ahmedabad) for the next edition.
A total of 1214 players had initially signed up for the IPL 2022 auction, after reducing the list only 590 (370 Indian & 220 overseas) players will go under the hammer.
It is likely that individual prices will also increase: Hugh Edmeades
Edmeades, who has been conducting the IPL auctions as the host since 2019, talked about his personal experience as the auctioneer for IPL.
“With each franchise being given an increased purse of Rs 90 crore, it is likely that individual prices will also increase. I don’t have a specific figure in mind, but I would be surprised if the Rs 20 crore barrier is not broken this year,” said Edmeades in a chat with InsideSport.
“During my 38 years as an auctioneer, I have taken plenty of two-day auctions, but admittedly, none lasting a potential 12+ hours. However, I am not at all fazed by the prospect of being on my feet for up to six hours each day. Mentally and physically, I will be splitting the sessions into “bite-size pieces” and taking the opportunities to regroup during the breaks in the auction,” he concluded.
