IPL 2022 Auction: Lucknow Super Giants Wants To Build A Team With Mixture Of Experience And Youth- Owner Sanjiv Goenka

Ahead of IPL 2022 auction, Lucknow Super Giants owner Sanjiv Goenka has said that his franchise is looking to build a team with a mixture of experience and youth. Rajiv Goenka is the owner of RPSG Group, which owns the Lucknow franchise. Lucknow is one of the two new franchises that will participate in the Indian Premier League 2022.

Recently, the team finalized its name for the tournament. They also picked three players in the form of KL Rahul, Marcus Stoinis, and Ravi Bishnoi. KL Rahul is also going to lead the team in IPL 2022. Now, the franchise owners are gearing up for the forthcoming IPL 2022 auction.

We Want To Build A Team With Mixture Of Experience And Youth In IPL 2022: Sanjiv Goenka

While speaking to Times of India about their plans for IPL 2022 auction, Lucknow franchise owner Sanjiv Goenka said that they aim to build a team with both young and experienced players. He also said that they want players who can give 3-4 years to the team.

“We are not going to compromise the long-term future for the sake of the short term. We’re looking to build a team which is sustainable in terms of performance. Obviously we would expect to go out in Year One itself and compete hard, but for the sake of competing in one year, we will not compromise the future. The emphasis will be on building a team with a mix of experience and youth, but looking at players who can at least give 3-4 years to the team”, Sanjiv Goenka said.

Sanjiv Goenka also said that the franchise is happy with the three players they have picked so far.

“You might have the odd exception. We are trying to bring in players who have different facets but when you build a whole team you have to bring in specialist batsmen and bowlers as well. We’re very happy with our three picks. Marcus (Stoinis) has sent me several texts saying he is committed to playing the role of an allrounder. Ravi is young and has a long way to go. I have been a great admirer of KL over the years. He’s cool, calculated, not effusive”, Sanjiv Goenka further said.

RPSG group paid a whopping amount of Rs. 7090 crore to BCCI to get the ownership rights of the Lucknow team. Ahmedabad is the other new team that will be part of IPL 2022. Hence, the 2022 season of IPL will be a 10-team event.

Now, the focus is on the IPL 2022 auction, set to take place on February 12 and 13 in Bengaluru. A total of 1214 players have registered their names for the mega event. Many players will be shortlisted from the final draft and about 250 are expected to go under the hammer during the 2022 auction.
