According to a report in Kaler Kanth, Lucknow Super Giants mentor Gautam Gambhir wants to have Ahmed as Wood’s replacement in the team and he had called in Dhaka on Sunday evening (March 20) to request for the same.
“I want Bangladesh fast bowler Taskin Ahmed in the team and that is for the whole season. If he agrees to the offer, Taskin will have to leave for India before the next two Tests against South Africa,” Gautam Gambhir was quoted as saying.
Taskin Ahmed Will Miss South Africa Series If He Joins Lucknow Super Giants
The Bangladesh pacer is currently in South Africa, playing white-ball series for his team and he has been named in the Test squad for the two-match series against South Africa.
However, if he accepts the offer of Lucknow Super Giants mentor he will have to miss the Test series. As per reports, he has asked for some time to discuss the proposal with the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB).
“Franchise cricket is a reality now. You can’t hold anyone even if you want to. BCB president Nazmul Hasan is also generous in accepting the reality, That’s why a key member of the team said that Taskin is more likely to get leave,” a member of the Bangladesh team was quoted as saying by Kaler Kanth.
The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 is all set to begin from March 26 to May 29. All the games of the league stage will be played in Maharashtra across 4 different venues including Wankhede Stadium, Dy Patil Stadium, Brabourne Stadium and Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium. Meanwhile, Lucknow Super Giants will take on Gujarat Titans in their season opener.
