The IPL 2022 season was a big success as it was held completely in India after two years. 2020 saw the IPL being staged in the UAE completely. The second half of IPL 2021 was held again in the UAE owing to the increase in covid cases in the country. However, the BCCI planned to stage the 2022 season completely in India and it was a big success. 

A total of 70 matches have been played across the four venues in Maharashtra in IPL 2022. 20 matches each were played at the Wankhede Stadium and the DY Patil Stadium while 15 each at the Brabourne Stadium and the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium. Qualifier 1 and the Eliminator were played at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata. Ahmedabad hosted the final with Gujarat Titans winning the title IPL tile on their debut season.

Speaking of debutants, several young debutants both Indian and overseas played in IPL 2022 and made an impact. They now are seen as future stars of the game for their respective countries. In this article, we pick the best debutant’s XI from the IPL 2022 season.

Tilak Varma

Among all the players who debut in the IPL in 2022, the southpaw made the most valuable impact. He held the Mumbai Indians batting line-up on his young shoulders. Varma scored 397 runs in 14 games with two fifty-plus scores. Rohit Sharma even said that he can be a very bright prospect for India soon.

Dewald Brevis

Brevis was one of the overseas players who made his debut in IPL 2022. Batting at number four, he displayed immense potential and talent. He will now be monitored closely in South Africa’s cricket regime. 

Tim David

This was very much a debut season for Tim David as he played just one match in IPL 2021 for RCB. Mumbai picked him up in the mega auction and did not give him too many games in the first half. He replaced Kieron Pollard in the second half of the season and displayed his hitting potential. Aaron Finch, the Australian white-ball skipper has said that David is closing in on getting his maiden international call-up. 

Ayush Badoni

Badoni started the season for Lucknow Super Giants and played the finisher’s role in a few matches. His initial eye-catching performances made the cricketing world take notice of his ability. Badoni will only get better with more matches under his belt in the upcoming seasons. 

Jitesh Sharma (WK)

The Punjab Kings keeper-batsman ended IPL 2022 with one of the best strike rates in the season. His exploits in Syed Mushtaq Ali’s trophy made for his state brought him into notice and Punajb roped him in. He finished the season with 234 runs in 12 matches at a stunning strike rate of 163.64.

Mukesh Choudhary

The CSK pacer gave India another potential left-arm seamer. He bowled terrific inside the powerplay and took 11 out of his 16 wickets in that phase of the game. He bowled with pace as well giving CSK another good bowling option for the future. 

Mohsin Khan

Mohsin was almost unplayable in the season. He made good use of his height and bowled in good areas making it tough for the batsmen to hit him. He ended the season with 14 wickets closing in on his India cap. 

Yash Dayal

Dayal is another left-arm pacer who came into prominence in this IPL season. He bowled well alongside the likes of Mohammed Shami, Lockie Ferguson and Alzarri Joseph. He got some of the big names dismissed this season and ended with 11 wickets in eight matches at 9.25 runs per over.

Kumar Kartikeya

Kumar Karikeya’s journey perfect rags to riches story in IPL 2022. He bowled well for Mumbai Indians this season and gave them a good left-arm spin option. He will be expected to be persisted with by the franchise.

Matheesha Pathirana

The Sri Lankan pacer was roped in as a replacement for the injured Adam Milne for CSK. He played the last couple of matches for CSK and bowled with pace. His action resembling Lasith Malinga brought him to notice. He will be given more games next season. 

Prashant Solanki

The young CSK leg-spinner concludes the best debutants Xi of IPL 2022. He played the last few matches for CSK and bowled with great heart and vigour. He is another of those young Indian spinners unearthed in the IPL.
