Indian Premier League (IPL 2022) is just a few days away and the opening match between CSK vs KKR is set to begin at 3:30 PM IST which is the first time in the league that the opening game is played in the afternoon time. Chennai Super Kings who reached Surat for their practice session would like to start the tournament with a win at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on March 26th. The match is expected to be an interesting one as both teams met each other in the Final of IPL 2021.

Chennai has made a few changes to their previous year’s squad as their key players of the past season Faf du Plessis, Suresh Raina, Shardul Thakur, and Josh Hazelwood are no longer part of  CSK. The team is set to come into the tournament with a new opening combination, changes in the middle order, and a new opening bowling pair. The trouble for CSK has been the unavailability of Deepak Chahar for the first few games.

MS Dhoni (C & Wk) 

MS Dhoni is all set to lead CSK once again. Dhoni has led CSK to four titles and they are the defending champions. Dhoni’s performance in the 2021 season has been not been that good as he scored 114 runs at a strike rate of 106.54. In his IPL career, he has scored a total of  4746 runs in the 220 matches he has played.

Ruturaj Gaikwad

The orange cap holder of IPL 2021 was retained by CSK ahead of the auction. Gaikwad has scored 635 runs at a strike rate of 136.26 which includes a high score of 101* against Rajasthan Royals. Gaikwad has scored a total of 839 runs in the 22 IPL matches he has played. He has been in top form in the Indian domestic cricket scoring hundreds consistently.

Robin Uthappa

The veteran who was part of the title-winning team in 2021 was bought back to CSK in the auction for INR 2.0 CR. Uthappa played 4 matches in IPL 2022. He played a key role in the playoffs and scored 115 runs in the four matches he played at a strike rate of 136.90. In his IPL career, Uthappa has scored a total of 4722 runs in the 193 matches played.

Moeen Ali

Moeen Ali represented CSK in IPL 2021 was retained by the franchise ahead of IPL 2022. Ali in his first year in the yellow jersey has fared well scoring 357 runs at a strike rate of 137.30 and picking up 6 wickets. Ali is a good all-rounder and a key asset with both bat and ball for CSK. In his IPL career, he has scored a total of 666 runs and picked up 16 wickets in the 34 matches he played.

Ambati Rayudu

Rayudu has won two titles with CSK and has been part of the team since their comeback in 2018. He has scored 1500 runs for the franchise. In IPL 2021 Rayudu scored 257 runs at a strike rate of 151.17 which is his career-best. In his IPL career, Rayudu has scored a total of 3916 runs in 175 matches that he has played. He was bought back in the auction for INR 6.75 CR.

Dwayne Bravo

DJ Bravo once again is set to represent CSK as he was bought by the franchise in the auction for INR 4.4 CR. Bravo has been the team’s go-to bowler over the years for CSK. He has picked up 14 wickets in IPL 2021. In his IPL career, Bravo has scored a total of 1537 runs and picked up 167 wickets.

Ravindra Jadeja

Jadeja has been the star performer for CSK in IPL 2021 with both bat and ball and has played the role of a finisher. Jadeja scored 37 runs in one over against RCB in the last season which was one of the highlights of the season. He has scored 227 runs at a strike rate of 145.51 and picked up 13 wickets in 2021. In his IPL career he has scored a total of 2386 runs and picked up 127 wickets in 200 matches.

Shivam Dube

Dube who was part of Rajasthan Royals in the last season was bought by CSK in the auction for INR 4.0 CR. Dube who is still in his early days in IPL has scored 230 runs at a strike rate of 119.17 in the 9 matches he played in 2021. In his career, he has scored a total of 399 runs and picked up 4 wickets in the 24 matches he has played.

KM Asif

Asif has been part of CSK since his IPL debut but he has got very few matches under his belt. He was bought in the auction for his base price of 20 lakhs. Asif has played 3 matches in his entire IPL career and has picked up 4 wickets at an economy of 11.38. Asif is highly effective in the powerplay with the new ball. Deepak Chahar’s injury has paved way for him to feature in the playing XI.

Raj Vardhan Hangarkar

The young Indian u19 sensation who can bowl at 145 plus speed consistently was bought in by CSK in the auction based on his performances in the u19 world cup in West Indies. He has scored a total of 101 runs and picked up 12 wickets in the Youth ODI’s. He is an all-rounder and recently played for Maharastra.

Chris Jordan

One of the best T20 bowlers in the world Jordan was bought in the auction by CSK to strengthen their death bowling attack. Jordan played for Punjab Kings in IPL 2021. He picked up 4 wickets in the 4 matches he played in IPL 2021. In his IPL career, he has picked up a total of 25 wickets in 24 matches he has played.
