Former England captain Michael Vaughan reckoned England wicketkeeper-batter Jos Buttler won’t play Test cricket further and will focus completely to become a white-ball specialist. Buttler has been, arguably, the best batter in the IPL 2022 for Rajasthan Royals and his numbers speak for him.
In just seven innings in IPL 2022, Buttler has accumulated 491 runs at an average of 81.83 and a massive 161.51 strike rate, he is leading the scoring charts of the tournament, with 226 runs more than Lucknow Super Giants skipper KL Rahul, who is in the second spot.
IPL 2022: Jos Buttler scored his fourth IPL hundred in the last eight innings
Buttler scored 116 in 65 deliveries against Delhi Capitals on Friday, his magnificent knock was laced with nine sixes and as many boundaries. Buttler registered his second successive century and third this season, to be more precise, fourth in the last eight IPL innings.
Buttler was retained by Rajasthan Royals during the IPL 2022 players’ retention list as their second-choice player. After the England team was humiliated by Australia 4-0 in the Ashes 2021-22, Buttler was dropped from the Test squad in ECB’s strategy to revamp Test cricket in their country.
Jos Buttler will be the England captain in T20s: Michael Vaughan
Vaughan opined that Buttler won’t play Test cricket anymore for the Three Lions and will be the front-runner to become Eoin Morgan’s successor in the shortest format.
“Jos Buttler, the best T20 player in the world. It’s a no-brainer. Soon as you get the chance to retain someone like Buttler, you do it. You stick him to the top of the order, and you watch him flourish. His form, expertise, power, skills are just getting better and better,” Vaughan said, as quoted by Hindustan Times.
“I don’t see him playing Test cricket anymore. I think he’s just going to be a white-ball specialist. And I still think he can improve. He will be the England captain in T20s; I don’t think it could be too far away. If not for this World Cup, definitely for the next one. He’s that sort of a cricketer,” he added.
Buttler’s scintillating knock propelled Rajasthan Royals to go top of the points table with 10 points in seven matches, one lesser than Gujarat Titans.
