IPL 2022: England Deserves All My Energy- Joe Root Ditches Entering IPL 2022 Mega Auction

England captain Joe Root has decided against participating in the IPL 2022 mega auction as he wants to reserve his energy for the national Test team instead, which is currently going through a rough patch.

England was thumped 0-4 in the recently concluded Ashes series but Root insisted that he wants to continue as the captain as he has the ‘appetite’ for it. As a result, he will not be entering the IPL auction.

“There’s a lot that we need to do for this team, which deserves all of my energy. I’ll keep sacrificing as much as I can because I care so much about Test cricket in our country and trying to get us to where we want to be,” Root stated.

Despite the Ashes debacle, Root seems to be the only choice for captaincy. Ben Stokes stated he has no intentions of being the skipper while there are no other regulars in the squad.

“I’d love the opportunity to take this team forward and to turn things around. At the minute, we are going through a real tough stage as a group of players, and the performances haven’t been good enough. But I’d love the opportunity to try and turn things around and for us to start finding the performances that you’d expect from an English Test team, which we’ve been lacking of late.”

“I believe I am the right man to take this team forward, in my own eyes. If that decision is taken out of my hands, then so be it, but I’d love the opportunity to carry that forward. And yes, I do have an appetite to carry on and to turn things around, but we’ll see how things unfold,” Root added.

Australia won the fifth and final Ashes Test in Hobart by 146 runs to secure 52/60 points available in the WTC 2021-23 table.
