Legendary Indian batsman Sunil Gavaskar has opined that the senior Australian opening batsman David Warner has looked happier since he joined the Delhi Capitals (DC) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022.
The veteran Australian opening batsman David Warner has looked brilliant with the bat in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022, having already scored 219 runs in just 5 games at an amazing average of 54.75 and an impressive strike rate of 157.55.

Speaking on the Cricket Live show on Star Sports, Gavaskar said that the environment in the dressing room has a major impact on the performance of players and for Warner switching from Sunrisers Hyderabad to Delhi Capitals has been very helpful.
“Sometimes when you aren’t doing well, the atmosphere in the change room isn’t always the best and that kind of effects your game. That seems to have happened with David Warner. Ever since he’s moved to DC, Warner looks happier and you can see that in his performance,” Gavaskar said on the Cricket Live show on Star Sports, the official broadcaster of IPL 2022.
“When that kind of performance happens, what it does is makes the player want to do something more. It also lifts the other players in the team because they know what a (quality) player he is,” Gavaskar added.
While talking about Warner’s poor run in the Indian Premier League 2021, Gavaskar said that any player can have one bad season.
“What a fabulous player David Warner has been for the franchises he’s played for. Last year was an exception because that can happen to anybody. To see him comeback this is way is just fabulous,” added Gavaskar.
When he does get going, David Warner is a very very special player – Matthew Hayden
Former Australian cricketer Matthew Hayden also lauded Warner for his performance and labeled him as a special player.
“No matter what bowlers, what franchise he plays for. When he does get going, David Warner is a very very special player. He obviously uses the pace (of the ball) very well but you never see a slide in his game, he never sort of decelerates in his game,” Hayden said on the same show.
He added that Warner has got a good opening partner like Prithvi Shaw, who keeps attacking in the powerplay, and said that Warner looks to use his fitness to bat deep.
“I think his opening partner Prithvi (Shaw) is scoring pretty heavily at the start. Shaw’s strike rate through the powerplay is very high, but David (Warner) uses his fitness well and looks to bat deep. He knows how to pace his innings.”
