IPL 2022: Final Is In Gujarat, Hardik Pandya Wants To Take It There - Ravi Shastri On All-Rounder's 'Burning Desire' To Win

Former Team India head coach Ravi Shastri feels that Hardik Pandya has led the Gujarat Titans (GT) well and he desperately wants to grab the IPL 2022 title in Ahmedabad, the venue for the grand final.

Gujarat defeated Rajasthan Royals (RR) in Qualifier 1 on Tuesday and they will now await their opponents for the final. The debutants won the game in the final over with David Miller smashing 3 sixes in a row in the final over.

“There is a burning desire to win, being a team from Gujarat, the final is in Gujarat, he wants to take that there. He has tremendous confidence in his ability. He reads the game extremely well. He always wanted to bat higher up the order.”

“He can bat like a No. 4 batter. He reads the situations of the game, he reads the conditions, he knows his role and what is required and for captaining the side, the added responsibility has done wonders to his batting,” Shastri said on Star Sports.

Shastri also stated that Hardik is highly capable of playing as an anchor or as a finisher. After GT lost a couple of quick wickets in Qualifier 1, Hardik decided to stick around and take it deep.

“He can play both ways, make no mistake about it. If he were on strike for the final over, he might have done exactly what David Miller did. He kept his cool,” Shastri noted.

GT has been the best chasing side this season and they once again showcased why. In a pressure game, they managed to keep their calm and chase down the daunting target of 189 after another Jos Buttler masterclass.
