Playing in their first Indian Premier League (IPL) season, despite everything, Hardik Pandya-drove Gujarat Titans made history by securing an IPL title in their debut season.

The triumph stays to be a hot topic as no one allowed GT an opportunity after the IPL mega auction. Matthew Wade, who played many games for the franchise in IPL 2022, called the victory quite similar to winning a World Cup.

In the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2021 semi-last against Pakistan, Wade enacted a critical role for Aaron Finch and Co. as he took Pakistan speedster Shaheen Afridi to the cleaners, hitting a hat-trick of sixes against the left-arm pacer in the nineteenth over to assist the Aussies with coming to one more World Cup final.

Wade stayed unbeaten on 41 off 17 balls and sewed a game-winning 81-run partnership for the 6th wicket with Marcus Stoinis (40* off 31).

Conversing with SEN Radio, Wade reviewed the vital experience of playing before an audience of more than 1, 04, 000 at the Narendra Modi Stadium and said the triumph was near winning a World Cup.

“It’s as close to winning a World Cup as you can get. It was a crazy atmosphere and something I’ll never forget — 104,000 people; I didn’t think I’d ever play in front of that many,” Wade said.

Wade, who didn’t have a significant season with the bat for the Gujarat Titans, proceeded to add,“(It was) a different kind of feeling to a World Cup where you’ve spent a few years trying to build a team to get there but this one has got all the glitz and glamour on it, and they do it differently over in India and they put on a show.”

Wade didn’t offer much in an extraordinary spell with the Hardik Pandya-drove franchise, doling out less than impressive scores in pretty much every match he got to play for the team. Purchased for Rs 2.40 crore by Gujarat, Wade played 10 matches where he scored only 157 runs at 15.70
