Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) wants to leave no stones unturned as they are eager to host India in the near future. It was previously reported that Team India can travel to Bangladesh for a white-ball series.
The chances of a series between India and Bangladesh in Bangladesh look brighter, as the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) had reportedly declined to face Sri Lanka for a T20I series in the island nation.
Why is a series between India and Bangladesh possible?
The Men in Blue will travel to Sri Lanka only for a Test series in August, which keeps a slot free for September. Bangladesh Cricket Board's security committee chairman Sayeed Ibrahim Ahmed on Tuesday informed informed the reporters that BCB is trying its best to host their neighbouring nation in September.
Due to the previous controversy between BCB, BCCI, and ICC, ahead of the 2026 T20 World Cup, which India and Sri Lanka co-hosted, the security of cricketers in Bangladesh remains a concern. Geopolitical tensions fueled the controversy between the two nations.
Security remains a concern
Sayeed Ibrahim Ahmed assured that BCB would try their best to enhance the security of the cricketers. It is worth noting that Sayeed Ibrahim Ahmed is the son of Bangladesh's present home minister, Salahuddin Ahmed.
Sayeed stated that security is always a concern for every touring side for the top cricketing nations; Bangladesh Cricket Board is well aware of the fact. Ibrahim also mentioned that formal talks between BCB and BCCI are yet to be initiated.
"Security is always a concern for every touring side, especially for the major cricketing nations. We have not yet formally started communication with them (BCCI). We are hopeful there will be no complaints if the tour takes place as planned," Ibrahim told reporters in Dhaka on Tuesday.
"We always try to organise our events in a controlled environment and ensure the highest standards of security. We will continue to do that. It (security measures) will depend on the situation (during the India series), and if required we will enhance the security," he added.
BCB-BCCI is yet to take a final decision
However, amid all of the promises and possibilities, there has been no encouraging message from BCCI to BCB. Cricket officials of Bangladesh are trying to convince BCCI so that a series can be arranged in September.
"There has been no such positive message yet (with the BCCI), and we are still working out the details of the tour. We are trying to establish communication through our formal channels because the tour is coming up very soon," he said.
BCB will have to restore its relationship with BCCI as they are scheduled to host the 2027 Asia Cup. The upcoming Asia Cup is expected to be a 50-over Asia Cup in Bangladesh, scheduled to be held from June 18 to July 4, 2027. For the multi-nation tournament, BCB has already started its preparations in advance. Dhaka, Sylhet, and Chattogram are considered potential venues for the elite tournament.
