Former India batsman WV Raman believes that skipper Faf du Plessis should guide Siraj on a ball-by-ball basis. Siraj has taken eight wickets in 11 games and has surrendered runs at a 9.48 economy rate.
Mohammed Siraj has finished wicketless in his last two appearances, but he will want to push himself even harder against Sunrisers Hyderabad on Sunday.
Before the 2022 season of the tournament, RCB retained Siraj for a fee of Rs. 7 crores. While the team has made it into the top four, the pacers’ form continues to be a source of concern for the habitual underachievers.
Siraj has eight wickets in 11 games and a 9.48 economy rate. Siraj is still a good bowler for the team, but former India batsman WV Raman believes the rookie Siraj needs to be mentored by skipper Faf du Plessis nearly ball by ball.
‘Faf should talk to him frequently‘: WV Raman
WV Raman, who had been the head coach of the Indian squad from 2018 to 2021, also referenced the instance of Joginder Sharma, who was effectively utilized by MS Dhoni in the first T20 World Cup in 2007.
“Joginder Sharma, do you recall him? Dhoni forced him to bowl because he was the type of player who would do anything the captain said in a stressful moment. Siraj must also be educated on his responsibilities.
“Faf should talk to him frequently and inform him of his responsibilities. Siraj is easily agitated, and he lacks the necessary experience to figure out what needs to be done given the circumstances,” Cricket.com quoted WV Raman as saying.
“You can’t say you understand him” (Siraj). So because players are constantly being pumped. He’s also really motivated to succeed. Not to mention the fact that he will hear a lot of things spoken about him. He’ll arrive via plane. He’s attempting to persuade a large number of people.”
“So having that soothing effect will motivate him to perform his best. Faf must speak with him frequently and guide him on a case-by-case basis,” he continued.
