Daniel Vettori, a former Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) skipper, expressed his thoughts on Virat Kohli’s dismissal by Moeen Ali in the previous encounter against Chennai Super Kings (CSK). For a player of Kohli’s quality, Vettori said it was all about intent.

Kohli, the IPL’s all-time leading run-scorer scorer, isn’t at his best in the 15th season, with only one half-century in 11 games.

Former RCB captain Daniel Vettori weighed in on Kohli’s dismissal, questioning his motives. While Vettori believes Kohli was skilled enough as a batter to utilise his feet against England’s spinners, how he was dismissed indicated that he was hoping for a single.

“But it all seems to come down to intent: Kohli never seemed like he was looking for anything other than a single. So you plant your foot in the crease and wait for the ball. You can’t manipulate a single ball if it’s in the appropriate location.”

Kohli, at his best, takes off-spin because he’s tough, hits them straight, then hits the heavy ones. So it all comes down to intent. And perhaps the loss of the wicket, the run-out of Maxwell, sent him back into his shell, and he realized.

“I need to bat for a long time.” He is, nevertheless, skilled enough to use his feet against Moeen Ali,” Daniel Vettori Said.

‘Huge amount of credit to Moeen Ali’: Daniel Vettori

Kohli was not the first player to be hammered by Ali’s part-time spin bowling. Vettori also said he felt like he’d seen the wicket a few times in Tests and credited Ali with once again fooling Kohli.

“I can imagine R Ashwin or Harbhajan Singh bowling rapidly to him in the powerplay and him just hunting for singles and not dominating them.” This, however, is different. “This is Moeen Ali attempting to spin the ball wide off stump, and I think I’ve seen that dismissal a few times in Test matches,” Vettori remarked.

“And a lot of credit goes to Moeen Ali and his bowling style for being able to hit those spots with some bit of deviation and then the whole rapid spin. So far, this style of bowling seemed to have bothered him a little. It’s a fantastic ball. It’s a terrific bit of bowling, and the pitch made it happen, as did Kohli’s desire for only singles “Moreover, he stated.
