IPL 2022: Harshal Patel is Royal Challengers Bangalore's Unsung Hero: Graeme Swann

IPL 2022: Royal Challengers Bangalore defeated Rajasthan Royals yesterday to register their 2nd win of the season.

The architect of the victory was Dinesh Karthik as he scored an unbeaten 44 from 23 balls to see his side over the line in a difficult situation. In the three innings Karthik has played so far, he has not been dismissed once. He is acing the responsibility of a finisher.

It is this quality that came to the rescue of RCB last night when Karthik changed the game for them and took the side home.

Karthik was declared the Player of the match for his valuable innings, as he should have been. But there is one other player who has been doing quite well for the franchise for a couple of years now.

Harshal Patel Goes Under The Radar: Graeme Swann

Harshal Patel joined the Royal Challengers Bangalore before the start of the last season as he was traded from Delhi Capitals. Last year, Virat Kohli had explained that Harshal was brought in with a specific role in mind.

Harshal Patel delivered, and how he won the purple cap last year equalling the record of Dwayne Bravo of 32 wickets in a single season. It was a result of his hard work over the years. He has been on the scene for almost a decade as he has switched from Delhi Capitals to Royal Challengers Banglore over the years in the Indian Premier League.

He has started this season on a good note as well. In RCB’S win against RR, he went for 18 runs and picked up a wicket.

This led former English spinner, Graeme Swann, to comment that: “Harshal Patel is incredible for me because he is almost like the unsung hero. No one talks about him. He is not in the headlines but he keeps delivering game after game. He gets a few wickets. He bowls key overs and it’s just brilliant to see.”

RCB would hope that Harshal Patel continues this form throughout the tournament as RCB would like to lift the trophy this year after getting knocked out of the Playoffs in the last two seasons.
